The Course

In this course, Shelley takes you through braiding from the ground up, starting with the basics of hair preparation and sectioning, before building up to styles such as the plait, twist, fishtail, French braid, and Dutch braid. Every tutorial is broken down so that you can follow along at your own pace, pause, rewind, and practise until it clicks.

This course aims to provide you with a solid foundation you can actually use for everyday styling as well as more polished or creative looks.

What you will learn

Shelley starts with the stuff most tutorials skip: how to properly prepare and section the hair so that every braid starts clean and balanced. You'll also get to grips with tension control, which makes the difference between a braid that holds and one that falls apart.

From there, you'll work through a range of techniques together, with the focus on actually understanding how each one works rather than simply copying steps. Shelley also shows you how to spot and fix mistakes as you go, so that you don't find yourself pulling everything out and starting again.

Hi, I’m Shelley Lane: a stylist, colourist, and Avant-Garde Hair Artist. Over the years, my work has taken me from my salon in Aberkenfig to the catwalks of London and Paris Fashion Weeks, and into the pages of international magazines.

Since 2015, I’ve travelled internationally to inspire and educate other stylists, sharing my passion for hair artistry. You may have even seen me on the BBC’s The Extreme Hairdresser!

Teaching has always been one of my biggest passions. I believe that every stylist deserves the skills and confidence to create beautiful, professional results, and braiding is one of the best places to start.

I created this course to help you build those foundations step by step, in a way that's practical and applicable in every-day styling.

I can’t wait to share this journey with you.
